Republic Development Group is partnering with a New York developer on a new multifamily project in Charlotte, North Carolina's historic Plaza Midwood neighborhood.
Located east of Uptown, the proposed project by Republic Development and Esen is slated to break ground in mid-2026 at 700 and 800 Central Ave. At full build-out, the Central Avenue project is designed to include 370 apartments and 3,000 square feet of retail space.
The site is situated minutes from American Legion Memorial Stadium and Central Piedmont Community College in Plaza Midtown, a neighborhood founded in the early 1900s as the city's first "streetcar suburb."
Multifamily developers have focused primarily on the rapidly growing Plaza Midwood and North Davidson, or NoDa, neighborhoods, where asking rents are at a considerable premium compared to the overall average in East Charlotte, according to CoStar's latest report.
Plaza Midtown "offers historic charm within reach of Charlotte's economic center," Adam McMichael, managing director and Charlotte lead for Republic, said in a statement. "Charlotte's demand for well-located, thoughtfully crafted housing continues to grow, and this project answers that need."
The project marks the first in the Charlotte area for Esen, a newly launched real estate investment and development firm focused on urban developments. Republic Development is the Charlotte-based subsidiary of the Republic Family of Cos., a real estate investment, management and development enterprise that encompasses several businesses.
